August Meeting Update

Great news for the upcoming August 16th meeting at 5:30. Kendra Little will be our feature speaker.

Topic: Tell Me Where It Hurts: Three Cures for the Common Slow

Does your SQL Server sometimes just feel "slow"? Kendra Little knows how to quickly diagnose the 'Common Slow': long running queries, query timeouts, and maintenance jobs that get longer every week. Kendra shows you how to find where it hurts and select the cure-- and how to avoid killing the patient.

Kendra Little is all about data, communication, and creativity. Kendra is a founder at Brent Ozar PLF, LLC, where she specializes in high availability and performance tuning. She is a Microsoft Certified Master in SQL Server-- the highest technical SQL Server Certification available. In her spare time, Kendra draws quirky posters that start conversations about technology.

2nd Meeting Update

Our second meeting for SOSSUG was highly successful and worth attending. We had 13 people in attendance from several different organizations. Our guest speaker, Jeremiah Peschka @peschkaj, did an outstanding presentation on Refactoring SQL. His talk demonstrated proven SQL refactoring techniques which we are reviewing for use in our environment. I hope to use what we learned to make some significant performance enhancements in key areas.
We did a survey of those in attendance and we will keep our current time for the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 PM.
Upcoming Events:

Next meeting is August 16th at 5:30 at PH Tech

SQL Saturday

SQL Saturday is October 8th in Portland.

I highly recommend attending SQL Saturday. It will be my first time but I have heard nothing but positive reviews of last years SQL Saturday. Register ASAP as seating is limited.

Pass Summit in Seattle:

This has to be the largest gathering of SQL Geeks in the world. It is also relatively close. October 11-14th. Register ASAP.

That's all for now,

Ben Pickett
